DePuy Synthes: Product Portfolio

DePuy Synthes is comprised of 4 groups of companies and falls under the aegis of Johnson & Johnson group of companies. The 4 operating groups of DePuy Synthes companies are:

  • DePuy Mitek, Inc.: It has a broad portfolio of minimally invasive products for sports injuries.
  • Codman & Shurteff, Inc:
  • DePuy Orthopedics, Inc.:
  • DePuy Spine, Inc.: Spinal interbody for spinal fusion.

As a Master’s student at Trinity College Dublin, I worked on the development of spinal implant as a part of the collaboration between DePuy Synthes Ireland and Trinity College Dublin.

1. DePuy Spine, Inc.

DePuy Spine, Inc. boasts of a broad portfolio of spinal implants. These implants can be grouped into fusion and non-fusion based spinal implants.

1.1. Fusion Spinal Implants

Fusion-based spinal implants are used in spinal fusion surgeries. Spinal fusion surgery is a technique to join two vertebrae.

Why do you need spinal fusion surgery?
Patients with severe disc herniation, spinal fracture, scoliosis or spinal stenosis undergo severe back pain.

These fusion-based spinal implants can be grouped into 3 types.

  • Plates
  • Cages
  • Rods

1.1.1. Spinal Interbody
